Restoring Balance to the Body

What is Bowen Therapy?
The Bowen Technique is a gentle therapy applied to specific areas of the body using the fingers and thumbs. The Bowen move is a gentle rolling move to the skin and underlying soft tissues to prompt the body to make the adjustments which relieve tension, promote healing and reduce pain. There is no manipulation and it is not a form of massage. The experience of the treatment is gentle, subtle and relaxing.
The Bowen Technique is generally regarded as safe and effective for people of all ages, from babies to the elderly: sports enthusiasts to those with chronic conditions.

What happens in a Bowen Session?
A Bowen therapy treatment session takes between 30 to 60 minutes depending on the age of the client and the nature of their symptoms. Most of the Bowen moves are performed through light clothing, there is no requirement to undress. Dependent of the needs of the client and the condition to be treated, Bowen therapy is completed in lying or sitting.
The practitioner applies gentle rolling moves using thumbs and fingers on specific points on the body. During the treatment, breaks of a few minutes are taken; and if appropriate, the therapist will leave the room. These breaks give the body time to acknowledge the move that has taken place and adjust accordingly. The length and number of the breaks will vary from client to client.

It is recommended 2 - 4 treatments will be required, and often this is all that is necessary. For long-term chronic conditions the number of treatments may need to be increased. A gap of 5 to 10 days is recommended between each Bowen Therapy session.
Many people receive treatments on a regular basis to help keep their body balanced and to manage their pain.

Please note: Bowen Therapy is not a substitute for medical treatment.

Aftercare
After your Bowen treatment it is important to drink plenty of water. The Bowen Technique may release toxins from the tissues. Drinking water will help flush away these toxins from your body and so prevent you from experiencing a 'hangover' type headache.

After your treatment, keep mobile. If you are physically able, stand up and walk around every 30 minutes. This has two effects, i) it improves the movement of lymph fluid which supports the removal of toxins and ii) prevent any post treatment stiffness.

During a course of Bowen treatments it is advised that you do not have any other hands on therapies such as massage, reflexology, osteopathy, chiropractic, acupuncture etc.

Testimonials
The Bowen Clinic - Well where to begin..... firstly do not ask me how it works, I just know it does.

Heather has been helping with my pain and fatigue management for five years now.
I feel so safe in Heather's hands, she makes you feel so calm, comfortable and relaxed (I have drifted off a couple of times during the treatment and I apologise if I was snoring lol) especially as Bowen was something I had never tried before and have to say had to go in with a completely open mind.

I have been managing my disability and long-term health condition for over 30 years now and was amazed at how Heather helped with my pain reduction (and improved my sleep too)

I have contacted Heather many times when I have been struggling more and she always makes time to listen and then find appointments quickly for me.

Heather, Thank you for all you do ...... you are amazing.
